Ichtyology
The scientific study of fishes, which includes their taxonomy (their names and classification), morphology (how they look), ecology (their roles in the ecosystem), systematics and evolution (how they evolved and how they are related to each other), and biogeography (where in the world they live). |
Stable Isotopes
Different non-radioactive forms of atoms, which appear as a result of changes in the number of neutrons. These changes affect the weight of the atoms, but not their identity. Stable isotopes are not common on Earth, so we study their proportion to the 'normal' atoms to understand changes in biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem dynamics. |
